Welcome to Abbey Kay — a place to be filled with encouragement through real life struggles, a source to ethical fashion & trendy finds, & a guide to my life in Reno, NV.

A few things about me: I desperately want others to know they are seen, heard, & not alone. I believe you should love your body at every stage in life. I think finding a balance in everything you do is more important than striving for perfection. I will always drink black coffee & never not have black nails. I try my best to be open, honest, & real by showing up for others.

Always know that life is unpredictable, but it’s still worth experiencing every up & down it has to offer.

I’m so glad you’re here & can’t wait to connect!

  • monday morning encouragement: there’s those moments…

There’s those moments in life that you look at & you wonder how you got there. Whether it’s a reflection of something good or something bad, life makes you constantly stop & think about what exactly lead you to being where you are. Think about it… How did you get to today? What was your…

  • so many things make me want to cry lately

So many things make me want to cry lately. It’s not because I’m a girl. It’s not because I’m hormonal. It’s not because I’m pregnant or living with the monthly proof that I’m not. I just want to cry lately, over everything. I want to cry because people keep calling me a “white girl” since…

  • a day exploring reno with my mom for her birthday

Last week was my mom’s birthday & she turned a great age that doesn’t need to be named because let’s be real, she’s timeless. My mom is the most beautiful person I know & not to mention completely selfless. She’s kind, overly generous, completely understanding, & she’s been “mom” to whoever needed one for as…

  • monday morning encouragement: words for today

I don’t know what to say this morning. I don’t know what words to write. I don’t know how to express the flatline of emotion that I feel. I thought I had come to a place where my words wouldn’t offend, where they couldn’t cause hurt, where they wouldn’t strike pain. I thought I had…

  • i don’t usually do this, but it’s time that i finally do

I don’t usually do this, but it’s time that I finally do. I’ve decided to try out a new thing. Writing on the big topics is something I try my best to avoid because I’ve been known to be offensive in the past. I’m someone who puts their foot in their mouth & doesn’t always…

  • abbey kay turns four: reflection & encouragement

This week marks the fourth year that I’ve done this blog. And so much has changed. From what I share here & how I share it, to who I am, & what I love. It’s all different from that moment my 19 year old brave self decided to start out on a random adventure. I…

  • monday morning encouragement: when you find the good be sure to soak it in fully

Life’s bullshit, Miroki. It honestly truly is. Opportunities fade. Relationships break apart. Lives end. Racism lives. And we all just must go on in the midst of chaos & confusion & misunderstanding. Life is not always root beer floats & donuts. (Trust me, I’ve tried that & it doesn’t go over too well.)  Life is hard.…

  • monday morning encouragement: be confident in who you are

Life is a long stretch of time filled with highs & lows & all sorts of in betweens. It’s filled with hate & love. It’s filled with aggression & peace. It’s filled with so many humans all trying to figure it out on their own.  Give people chances.  Make opportunities happen. Be confident in who…

  • monday morning encouragement: the end is just the beginning

There’s a thing of beauty to be sought after when something in your life decides it’s time to end. We don’t always see it because we don’t want to admit that it could be anything more than what it seems: sad, a loss, failure, the last of something great. But what if greatness best grows…

  • monday morning encouragement: it’s time to let go & know yourself

It’s time let go & know yourself. Life is too short for you to be living to please those around you. Let your hair down. Ease up your guard. And live your life the way you’ve always wanted to.  Know who you are. Know what you like. Know what makes you soar & fly. Know…
